Alan Shearer says that he is in the same boat as Newcastle fans regarding the club’s future and whether he will be appointed as manager of the club when a buyer eventually emerges from the mess that has been dragging on for months.
Club owner Mike Ashley, who apologised to the St James’ faithful for his ‘catastrophic’ reign at the club when he put Newcastle United up for sale for a second time is now looking for a quick sale and is thought to be willing to accept an offer of as little as £80million.
Although there has been plenty of interest from individuals and consortium’s, the club has yet to receive an offer that meets the owners valuation, bearing in mind that Ashley himself paid a reported £134 million for the club in 2007.
Shearer says that reports that he will walk away from the club are far from the truth and that he want’s the situation sorted out like everybody else. But for now the former England striker says he knows no more than anyone else, “I would dearly love it to be sorted out one way or the other then the club can move forward. Everyone is telling me there are people in to buy the club. If that is the case, then great.”
