Lee Camp told he can leave Queens Park Rangers

Thomas Rooney - Tuesday 14.10.08, 16:00pm

Former Derby County goalkeeper Lee Camp no longer has a future at Queens Park Rangers. The club’s sporting director, Gianni Paladini, has confirmed that the player is available for transfer should another team be interested in securing his services.

The 24-year-old has only made one appearance for Iain Dowie’s team this season and that only came in the Carling Cup victory at Swindon Town in August. Lee Camp has lost his place to Radek Cerny – someone who has made three appearances for the Czech Republic.

Something that is encouraging about this situation given the state of the game today is that Lee Camp seems very keen to play first team football. Too many players these days are happy to sit on the bench, but Lee Camp wants to be playing every week. Fair play to him.

Lee Camp moved to Loftus Road in the summer of 2007 for £300,000 from Derby County and is a popular character amongst the QPR faithful. However, it appears that it is time for him to move on if he is to further his stuttering career.

Something that Gianni Paladini did admit though, was that Iain Dowie would need to bring in another keeper should Lee Camp leave the club. This could mean that the Championship club follow up their interest in highly-rated Peterborough United keeper Joe Lewis. The former Norwich City man has been linked with a move to QPR after a string on excellent performances for the League One club.

Joe Lewis is certainly someone I would place a football bet on playing for England one day, so should the move go ahead there is every chance that the 21-year-old will challenge Radek Cerny for the number one shirt more than Lee Camp has done so far this season.
