What an incredible turn around it has been for Derby County hard man Robbie Savage, who this time last year was looking for a way out of his nightmare after falling out of favour at the Championship club.
Along came Nigel Clough in January to take over from departing manager Paul Jewell, Clough reinstated Savage in his midfield and the player has not looked back.
Savage says that all players need an arm around them at some point in their career, be they 34 or 17. Clough offered that arm and told Savage that he was a decent player who figured in Derby County’s future and the player is eternally grateful.
The icing on the cake for 34 year old Savage is the offer of a new contract that will keep him at Pride Park until 2011. He says he feels as good as ever and has enjoyed one of the best pre-seasons of his 18 year professional career. He believes that Nigel Clough has the ability to take Derby to the Premiership and is chuffed that he will be part of that challenge.
